Over 50 people turned up for a blood donation clinic and 38 managed to donate blood at Bwemba clinic in Mtetemera Village, Sub-Traditional Authority (STA) Mpoto in Balaka District. The activity was organized by MBTS Balaka Satellite Depot on 14th October 2022 in order to sustain supply of blood and blood products in all authorized hospitals in the Eastern region and across the country.
Speaking during the activity, Area Development Committee (ADC) Chairperson, Andrew Door, thanked MBTS for initiating blood donation clinic in their area. He said: “We are glad that this activity is happening in our area today. We used to only hear issues about blood donation from our neighboring communities and we have always wanted to have our own day of blood donation activity.”
Door, who is also a blood donation patron in the area, further said he was not satisfied with the number of people who donated blood, but expressed optimism that the next blood donation campaign will yield more.
However, Assistant Public Relations Officer for MBTS, Mclloyd Kudzingo, said he was impressed with the turn up as it was the first time for MBTS to conduct such an activity in the area. “Being the first time to conduct this activity, we were not expecting such a huge number of blood donors. We thank all traditional leaders and ADC members for helping us in organizing this event,” he said. Kudzingo also assured the leaders that MBTS will continue conducting blood donation open days in the area.
