Malawi Blood Transfusion Service (MBTS) is a Trust that was established to provide a safe and adequate supply of blood and blood products to meet the needs of all patients in authorised hospitals in Malawi. It is committed to meet its objective of collecting, processing and testing all blood from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors in low-risk populations to international standards, in a cost efficient manner.

The MBTS is seeking a suitable candidate to fill the position of Temporary Clinic Nurse tenable its Mzuzu Centre.

Duration : Two years

Job summary
The Clinic Nurse position is responsible to and receives directions from the Nursing Officer and in her or his absence the Chief Nursing Officer

The Temporary Clinic Nurse will carry out all aspects of blood collection activities including the selection, care of blood donors, phlebotomy, providing pre- and post-donation advice, promoting blood donation

Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
1. Enrolled Nurse/Midwife/Nurse Midwife Technician
2. Registered with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi
3. Two years’ work experience in a busy hospital
4. Good communication skills
5. Good team spirit contributing to a successful team
6. Quality awareness and good customer care skills
7. Customer care oriented

Description of Tasks
1. Providing medical assessment to aid in determining suitability of donors to ensure Blood safety
2. Providing a leadership role during blood collection sessions to his/ her subordinates
3. Conforming to all relevant requirements of the Quality management system.
4. Following all applicable Standard Operating Procedures and policies and indicating that they have been comprehended.
5. Safeguarding assets of the organisation
6. Accurate record keeping and documentation
7. Performing Venepuncture
8. Performing any other duties as assigned from time to time
