Girls urged to donate blood

By Bridget Shumba

Girls from Hotso Private Secondary School in Ntcheu District have encouraged other girls and young women to take part in blood donation in order to save lives. The girls were speaking when their school visited MBTS Balaka Satelite Depot for blood donation on 20th October 2022.

One of the girls Tadala Sabuni said she was at first hesitant to donate blood because people said many negative things about blood donation. “People said I would faint or die if I dare to donate blood. This made me nervous the first time I came for blood donation,” she said.

Another girl Rashida Raheemah advised fellow girls and other people who fear blood donation to avoid listening to false information that generate fears among potential blood donors. Tadala and Rahida who both donated blood for the third time said they have never experienced any life threatening effects after donating blood. The two therefore urged more girls to embrace blood donation in order to prevent deaths that occur due to blood shortages in hospitals.
