On Friday, October 3, 2025, the Malawi Blood Transfusion Service (MBTS) expressed gratitude after receiving a generous donation of four tents from the Reserve Bank of Malawi. The donation is intended to support and improve outdoor blood donation drives, ensuring a safe environment that is suitable for medical procedures and can comfortably accommodate equipment and personnel, including blood donors.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, MBTS Board Chairperson, Elizabeth Gondwe, commended the Reserve Bank for its continued support, describing it as essential to the organization’s mission of supplying adequate and safe blood to hospitals across Malawi
“We are sincerely grateful for this donation, which will significantly enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our mobile blood donation drives. This is not the first time RBM has supported us; previously they also donated T-shirts for our campaigns. This continued support is a powerful demonstration of partnership, solidarity, and shared commitment to saving lives,” said Gondwe.
Representing the Reserve Bank of Malawi, Boston Maliketi Banda, Director of Public Relations, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting MBTS whenever the need arises.
“MBTS is a silent national hero that deserves recognition. Every unit of blood collected saves lives, and we are glad to be associated with this noble cause. We will continue opening our doors to offer support whenever possible,” Banda emphasized.
He further urged Malawians to embrace the spirit of blood donation, highlighting its life-saving impact. “Let’s put life first, by donating blood, we give others a chance to live. It is high time we all become heroes by donating blood regularly.”
The partnership between the Reserve Bank of Malawi and MBTS is a reminder that collective efforts can make a significant impact on national health. With more organizations joining hands to support blood donation initiatives, thousands of lives across the country can be saved.
